Call to Action
As committee deadlines approach and pass us, this week brings only a few bills in need of action.
Two bills we support, HB4348 FOID Local Reg and HB4842 Safety Tech Amendment 1, would prohibit taxes and fees designed to make exercising our rights more difficult, and help those who have moved to a new address or changed their name afford the cost of a corrected license.
We ask your opposition to SB3076 IEMA Police Powers in response to the NRA's recent request for our assistance on this bill.
This bill poses an increased risk to our privacy by conferring police power to access data bases, including FOID and FCCA data, to Cook County and its Department of Homeland Security. If this becomes law, additional counties could soon gain similar authority as their populations increase.
Please note that an amendment to SB3076 was postponed last week and is not scheduled to be heard at this time. We will monitor it closely.
Hearings are scheduled 4/13.
