I heard on the radio that the "Union That Killed Twinkies" was under the Teamsters umbrella-of-protection, and the Teamsters told them NOT to strike, as the company really *was* that shaky, and would probably go under if they struck.
My current understanding is that the efficiency problems were due to the teamsters (two trucks to the same stores, work rules, etc.), and the baker union basically said "we run an efficient operation, and we won't take a hit to save teamster jobs."
On the whole, that actually makes a lot of sense, because in the wake of the selloff someone is likely to buy the bakeries whole and give them a fairer deal than hostess could afford to after being strong-armed by the teamsters.

Yep, That union shit causing over 18,000 people to be unemployed just before Christmas. Good job.
Another company will buy the rights to it. It will not go away as there is money to be made by a better managed company.
Yup, but the other company the union members want to buy the plant and rehire them, more than likely won't. Leaving them out in the cold.
