I know it's easy to be an armchair quarterback, but geesh, if you are a cop and there are shots fired you really should expect that there are going to be MORE shots fired and they will be fired in your direction and take cover. If it turns out that there are no more shots fired, you haven't really lost anything. If someone DOES start shooting at you you have at least gained a chance.

The officer was sitting in his patrol car waiting for backup when the shooter exited the house and opened fire on the officer. Where was the officer supposed to take cover? Please read the article and think before you post. You, obviously, have never been a police officer. Why are you accusing a dead police officer of being responsible for his own death?
I did read the story. Sitting in a car waiting for backup when shots have already been fired limits your movement and ability to find cover when the sonofabitch comes out of the house and points the gun at you. The officer should have exited the car, taken a position behind cover where he could observe the house, drawn his weapon, and waited to see what might come out of the house. Bas tactics limited his options and cost him his life.
