My Kind of Church

Pastor Invites People to Bring Guns to Church

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Kentucky pastor is inviting people to bring their guns to church to celebrate the Fourth of July and the Second Amendment.

New Bethel Church is welcoming "responsible handgun owners" to wear their firearms inside the church on June 27, a Saturday.

An ad says there will be a handgun raffle, patriotic music and information on gun safety.

Church pastor Ken Pagano says guns must be unloaded and private security will check visitors. He says recent church shootings make it necessary to promote safe gun ownership.

Marian McClure Taylor is executive director of the Kentucky Council of Churches.

She says churches work to prevent violent harm and promote peace, but most "allow for arms to be taken up under certain conditions."

Ok. They've got to be unloaded but I'll bet that 'private security' are other church members.

I wonder how those with concealed carry permits will be handled.

I'm guessing they don't have to disclose that they have a concealed firearm, thus they don't have to unload it.

Also, carrying a mag in your pocket is "unloaded".

It's better than nothing.

Having fun with this over at OneUtah.org.

Major PSH from that site on just about anything firearm related.

Nice idea except for that "unloaded" thing. An unloaded gun's just a lousy hammer. I guess I'll continue to keep my church participation/gun carry behaviors private.

Let's not overlook that this is a progressive step in the right direction.

Instead of a church calling for our disarmament, we have a church calling on people to identify themselves as gun owners, to stand up for our rights.

I am glad the pastor is doing this. Probably the requirement for unloaded is to comply with the state laws.
