ROME — An Italian cruise ship with 1,500 people on board fended off a pirate attack far off the coast of Somalia when its Israeli private security forces exchanged fire with the bandits and drove them away, the commander said Sunday.
Another lesson that won't be learned.

I am not an international waters expert by any means.....is there a law prohibiting weapons on ships?
Too bad that wasn't here in America....even the staunchest gun control advocates might have been forced to acknowledge that as a defensive gun use.
Probably not since none of the bad guys ended up dead
Molon Labe, I'm no expert either but I do know that there are restrictions on having armed ships dock in guest ports. Basically the host country says if you want to dock in our ports, no armarments. Out of an intrest in trading with that country, outsiders will comply.
I can see this changing very quickly to "if you want us to dock in your ports with the cargo still on board, you'll allow us to dock armed to the teeth".
kaveman-
Then that would be a perfect argument to allow us to retain our "disposable AK-47's." Arm the ship's crew, and just throw the AK's away before docking.
