With the Brady Campaign proclaiming that gun control is going to sweep the nation, Winnetka, IL must not have been paying attention to the election results as they unanimously struck down their Brady supported handgun ban.

Il Rep Kirk introduces new AWB
Via Alphecca.
Kirk introduced another semi-auto ban in June. Right out of a Brady press release (he was endorsed by them actually), he blames the US for the violence in Mexico and that they're the weapon of choice for gangs.
Idiot.

NJ .50 cal ban update
A2116, the latest incarnation of a .50 cal ban got clarified on Oct 27th with wording about what is and isn't a muzzleloader.
According to the state web site, there was another amendment passed yesterday but no details on it that I have discovered as of yet.
Update:
The passed amendments basically state that any muzzleloaders and black-powder firearms aren't included in the ban. Here's the bill in its current configuration.
My sooper sekrit sources say it could be taken up as soon as December.

"We cannot expect the Americans to jump from capitalism to
Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders

The Mentality of Hoplophobes..
In Bryan Millers debate w/ Ms. Hain, the lady who carried to her kids' soccer game, he claimed that a person who carries automatically intimidates anyone they have a discussion with thereby having the upper hand. Ms Hain aptly calls that idea ridiculous.
She knew her stats and her history slamming not only Miller but the NJ detective with the classic "when seconds count" line and stats on police shootings. His whole "tactical SWAT teams are gonna blow you away" line got really old after about the 4th time he used it.
The original woman who called the authorities was one of the callers. She was a hysterical nutball who is afraid of the very idea of firearms.
Hain actually used Bryan's claims on his blog against him on his support for gun bans. He also flat out lied about the Halloween shooting by claiming the guy, who was a convicted felon, legally owned his gun. He also regurgitates the "developed country" myth. He knows that's not true so that was deliberate.
His responses about the bathroom assault phone call was just pathetic. He "didn't know" if a guy making sexual advances in a women's bathroom was dangerous.
This debate clearly went to Meleanie Hain. Bryan got his @ss handed to him. He must still be disjointed about Mary if this is his topgame.

The NY Times has a copy of the application for employment for the upcoming Obama administration.
If your weird Uncle Charlie ever got arrested for drunk & disorderly or if cousin Erma is single and has more than one 'babydaddy', don't bother. To get a job there, you need to be directly related to that guy that walked on water.
Oh, and a complete list of any firearms you and your family own.
I understand why they are doing this. They want to be prepared for anything that the jackals from the 4th Estate dig up for their daily rags.
SIH has his say.

Do you or any members of your immediate family own a gun? If so, provide complete ownership and registration information. Has the registration ever lapsed? Please also describe how and by whom it is used and whether it has been the cause of any personal injuries or property damage.

Down the memory hole..
Last June, the Chicago Tribune published an editorial calling for the repeal of the 2nd Amendment. This was linked fairly heavily here and at other sites. The original link was this:
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/chi-0627edit1jun27,0,2350076.story
Looking back on it for a link for this post, I noticed that the article no longer said anything about repealing but instead was talking about gang violence.
Turns out my memory wasn't faulty. Some Googling found the article at "SayAnythingBlog" with the same link as I had and copy of the original article. I verified it by checking other sites linking to the same place w/ the same wording. A little further digging showed the original article now only in the Tribune blogs. The list of Opinion articles no longer shows it listed either.
Unfortunately for the Trib, the web never forgets. The keywords "Chicago Tribune Repeal Second Amendment" still had the above link as its primary so they did try and flush it down the memory hole.

Media Perceptions
Uncle links to a recent Downrange TV piece on the media bias against firearm owners and firearms in general. I agree w/ Paul's claim that much of it is due to ignorance and laziness but I disagree w/ it being due to us not advertising our own events.
Example.
As I covered back in March, for IGOLD '08, all the major networks and papers in IL were contacted by the media reps and several individuals. They were told a march on the state capitol was "not news". About 2500 people showed up and it garnered only a buried copy-paste AP paragraph in the Chicago Tribune. On the same day, however, an anti-gun editorial was printed along with a long rant by Mayor Daley lambasting firearm ownership.
A pro-firearm rally in the city in July that had several hundred attendees was completely ignored. Again the media was informed.
In contrast, a march of less than 500 people a few days later to protest 'gun violence' in a city that bans most guns got front page coverage.
The Chicago Tribune editorial staff has called for the repeal of the 2nd Amendment.
That's deliberate bias.

Those Racist Gun Owners
Apparently buying merchandise that is guaranteed to increase in value in preparation for a promised ban is now another sign of racism against Obama.

Lead Content
Apparently the HSUS has been eating the paint chips peeling off the walls. They claim that people who eat animals harvested through hunting have higher levels of lead than those who eat store bought using a CDC paper as their source.
Unfortunately for them, the CDC said exactly the opposite and recommended the renewal of the ND program of meat donations to the poor.
One would the HSUS has an agenda that has nothing to do w/ animals.
More at Ahab, Uncle, and SIH.
Sebastian comments that the AHSA will probably not take a stand on this. I think it would be a good idea to mention it regularly on Ray Schoenke's DailyKos and Huffpo blogs.

Brady Campaign and AHSA compared
Ray Schoenke of the AHSA:
The leaders of the NRA launched vicious attacks on Obama, spending over $40 million. They thought they’d have a good opportunity to damage Obama’s campaign. But, they didn’t. Their ads were widely panned as misleading and dishonest. That’s their standard operating procedure – and this time, it failed. Their candidate lost.Brady Campaign:
The NRA lost big. The NRA called 2008 “arguably the most important year” in its 137year history, and promised to spend $40 million in the elections, mostly to defeatObama, who they deemed would be the “most anti-gun president in American history.”The NRA’s millions could not prevent victories by candidates supportive of sensible gunlaws, including in states with significant gun ownership. Obama won almost every state where the NRA ran ads.One would almost think that their goals were complimentary to eachother.

Lather, Rinse, Repeat
Bryan Miller doesn't believe the latest sales figures on firearms. He claims it's all just a "sales technique". To prove it, he cites the fact that Clinton's BATFE pulled the licenses from thousands of FFL dealers and manipulated statistics by the ever so honest VPC.
To bad I've already shown how the VPC claims were distorted.
He must follow the "repeat a lie often enough" principle.
Bryan also blathered:
"I am highly skeptical of the sales claims. Note that gun dealers are the ones making them."
Yet CBS showed he hasn't been reading much besides VPC press releases:
Damn those facts.
Note: The CBS quote has been 'moderated' from his site.

So CBS is a group of 'gun dealers' now? Let's say that Bryan is right. That the 'vast bulk' of sales are to prior gun owners. By his prior statements, that would be about 90%. Sound reasonable? Sure, why not. What that says though is that there were 840,000 new firearm owners this year alone.
"Law enforcement and industry data and anecdotal reports show that guns are selling well this year. In 2008, there were 8.4 million background checks from Jan. 1 to Sept. 28, compared with 7.7 million in the same period last year, a 9 percent increase, according to the FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System.
The increase is also notable because it follows a heavy year for gun purchases, which industry officials and experts link to the Virginia Tech shootings in April 2007 and a burgeoning housing market crisis. NICS checks show a 20 percent increase in April 2007, compared with the previous year. "
Damn those facts.

Flushed down the Memory Hole
Via War on Guns via others, it appears Obama's page on "Urban Policy" detailing his agenda has suddenly disappeared.

Wonder why?

The Freshman Fifteen
Makes you end up looking like this:

J/K. These grounded little piggies are courtesy of Tori Croft, National Manager for the NRA's Collegiate Shooting programs (another absence from the AHSA).
When I was in school, I signed up for an intro shooting course for fun. When I showed up for the first day, I was informed that the instructor had retired and wasn't being replaced. They had neglected to mail the the letter informing me. The secretary in the office ,when I inquired about it ,told me "If you want to learn how to shoot, you shouldn't do it at a university". Never mind the fact that target shooting was one of the first categories of events for the revived Olympic Games in 1896. I personally think that such ignorance and contempt shouldn't be allowed in an institution of learning.
But that's just me.
Lots of people don't realize that when they send in their dues, that money goes to support programs like this. They're led to believe that it goes to the ILA or PVF, two separately funded entities. I wonder where they got that impression from? But of course topics like that don't sell papers.
While they don't get as much attention, these programs are just as important to keep the shooting sports alive as preventing politicians from 'reasonably restricting' firearms to the point of defacto bans.

Urban Change
Now that Obama is going to be president, he's traditionally obligated to pay back all the folks that funded and stumped for him. The problem is is that he said he wasn't going to play politics as usual. So what will he do? Establish a new office for "Urban Policy" so he can justify directing lots of tax dollars to Chicago and other Obama strongholds:
His plans to ban semi-autos and other scary looking guns is well established so I won't even bother restating it right now.
# Create a White House Office on Urban Policy: Obama and Biden will create a White House Office of Urban Policy to develop a strategy for metropolitan America and to ensure that all federal dollars targeted to urban areas are effectively spent on the highest-impact programs. The Director of Urban Policy will report directly to the president and coordinate all federal urban programs.
His plans to ban semi-autos and other scary looking guns is well established so I won't even bother restating it right now.
