According to the Chicago Tribune:

Of the 4,050 firearms traded in for gift cards, there were 55 assault weapons and 3,335 handguns, along with 660 replicas, according to the Office of Police News Affairs.

Police gave a prepaid credit card for each weapon turned in: $100 for each assault weapon, $75 for guns and $10 for BB guns, air guns and replica guns.

About $46,000 had been raised so far this year for the program

ICPGV Spreading the Bull

The Joyce Puppet, Illinois Council to Prevent Gun Violence Ownership (ICPGV) has expanded their 'private sale loophole' meme to deliberately underplay the effect it will have. They claim:

HB 5480 (Osterman) - This bill will require universal background checks for all handgun transactions. Private handgun sellers would be required to conduct background checks on buyers to prevent gang members, domestic violence offenders, felons, and individuals with severe mental illness from accessing handguns.

There is currently NO system for 'private sellers' to conduct checks. The Illinois State Police have estimated the cost to start the required system to be in excess of 3.5 million dollars not even including the costs of maintaining it near $400K/year.

And w/ the ISP regularly delays FOID applications, I'm sure this system will work just as smoothly. Right?

AHSA Update

Looks like they didn't like the idea of having their domain get snagged so they renewed it.

Still no new content since February. I'ld continue to keep them in the 'defunct' category.

Where Oh Where did the Hunters and Shooters Go?

Everyone's favorite shill group for politicians who support gun control, the American Hunters and Shooters Assoc. (AHSA), seems to have gone the way a similar group, Americans for Gun Safety (AGS).

Their domain expired on April 25th and, as of the 6th of May, has not been renewed.

Their FaceBook page and Twitter feed hasn't had an update from them since February 20th.

I guess real hunters and shooters don't care for organizations whose goals are 'complementary' to the Brady Campaign.

Update: The site's back up but still no actual activity.

Another 'I'm a Gun Owner But...."

The Zumbo/Fudd mentality continues. Long story short. 'Liberal' guy, leading a secret life of a gun owner, is upset about the fact that most ranges can only get insurance through the NRA so he's 'forced' to join. Never mind the fact that the reason is all the laws his "liberal, peace-loving, college-educated" friends have pushed. He gets even more upset when those 'ugly' semi-autos become more popular than the 'traditional' guns he likes.

Then he goes on supporting the classic gun control mantras and talking points:

So Mayor Bloomie, after having switched from blaming tea partiers has switched to blaming the 'Terror Gap' for the recent attempted bombing in his city.

WASHINGTON – Federal law enforcement officials offered no explanation Tuesday for how the suspect in the failed Times Square bombing was allowed to board an international flight despite being hunted by the FBI and placed on the government no-fly list.

They can't even keep ACTUAL terrorists of planes yet various Gov't officials and gun control advocates want to strip you of your constitutional rights for being on the list.

I certainly feel safer.

Threat to Society?

CHICAGO (Reuters) – Nine members of a Christian militia group accused of plotting to kill police and wage war on the U.S. government were ordered freed on bond on Monday by a judge who said prosecutors failed to show they posed a real threat.

In a blistering attack, U.S. District Court Judge Victoria Roberts in Detroit said prosecutors had failed to persuade her the defendants were a danger to the community.

So we seem to have two possibilities that I can see:

1) They are dangerous nutballs and the prosecutors dropped the ball big-time, allowing them to go free.

2) They are just 'run-of-the-mill' nutballs and the investigators exaggerated the threat they represent.

AR-15 Bolt and Carrier Assembly

The assembly on my AR-15 has held up well for being nearly 25 years old but, after putting a few hundred rounds through it, there was some considerable sticking of the bolt and I determined that the best option (at least for me) would be to replace it.

Decided on a DPMS Panther Arms replacement through SG.



Cycling it w/ some A-zoom caps, it's worked flawlessly. This weekend I'll test it out.

Josh Horwitz is Upset

I suppose it had to happen sooner or later. I have just learned of a murder which occured in my tiny town. I have often bragged how heavily armed the people who live here are and how we have a very low crime rate.

But that didn't benefit this guy who was beaten to death with a horse switch...in 1965.

Yep, the last murder to occur in my town was 45 years ago.

Very interesting piece, and spot-on. These guys who carry guns out to political events and intimidate others with their shows of force are indeed degrading our democracy. For reference, look up how our Founders dealt with these types of thugs during Shay's Rebellion and the Whiskey Rebellion. They did not hesitate to act. Hopefully, the Obama administration will draw a line at some point, too.
