Why We Can't Have Nice Things : Update

One of my favorite local hiking spots is the 'Observatory Trail' at Walnut Point State Park.  It's a hair under 2 miles and rated 'moderate' which is a good haul for an individual who spends most of his time in a cubicle and has let him get himself out of shape.

Anywhoo...

Fifthpower and I went out there today since the weather was beyond perfect for it. Mid 70's.  Partly cloudy. Light breeze.  Just right.

An area of pine woods. Really creepy at dusk when the wind is blowing.  Lots of shadows and the trees creak and pop as they sway:

Tree down across the trail.  5P and I had fun climbing through it:

Baby toad:

Unfortunately when we got to the observatory, the halfway mark, the reason for the post became relevant. It's an old building that's been used as a local drinking spot and had been heavily vandalized over the years. The park has made a point to block of the entrance and cover over the graffiti.  As we got up there, we saw the blocks have once again been covered w/ graffiti. Not only that but a bench that we used to rest up on had been destroyed.  Set on fire by the trash that hang out there.

People suck.

Update:  The trail has been closed.

OAKLAND (JG-TC) -- Walnut Point State Park has closed the grounds around this park's long shuttered observatory and the connecting trail due to vandalism.

Walnut Point staff reported on the state park's Facebook page that vandals have destroyed signs and gates, and burnt a wooden bench. Walnut Point staff also reported that there has been an increase in racist and anti-Semitic graffiti in this area.

The state park is located just north of Oakland in the southeast corner of Douglas County. The long shuttered observatory on the southwest edge of Walnut Point was operated many years ago by the University of Illinois. Walnut Point staff asks those who have information about the vandalism to contact law enforcement.

No 'Compassion'? No Accountability? No Sympathy From Me.

The driver responsible for the death of three armed robbers who got shot by the home invasion victim says she has 'No Compassion' for the resident of the home.  He should have 'shot them boys in the leg'.

The grandfather of one of the thugs blames the victim for shooting them after they broke into his home and threatened him.
“They knew they could be punished for it but they did not deserve to die," said Schumacher...“Brass knuckles against an AR-15, come on, who was afraid for their life,"
'Deserve's got nothin' to do w/ it' as the saying goes. His grandson made a monumentally stupid decision, a series of them in fact, not thinking he would have to face consequences except maybe a slap on the wrist from some judge.

He was wrong.

And I've got no sympathy.

Miss Sloane *Spoiler Alert*

Lots of reviews have talked about the inane 'surprise ending' but of course haven't mentioned what it is. IMDB and Wiki haven't put it up the full plot on their sites yet.

Not that that's going to stop anyone.

Want to know what the 'shocking ending' is?  Read below the ads.

Lawson Family Home Fire.. Help Needed

The family home of David and Colleen Lawson burned down. While some made it out, several of their relatives perished in the fire.  This is THE Lawson's, of McDonald v Chicago and also being a wonderful couple in their own right.

They've done so much for us, the firearm owning community, now it's time to return the favor and show the world we're a family.

Help them out and spread the word.

Play Stupid Games, Win Stupid Prizes

So guy robs a Pizza Hut and gets ventilated.  Response by the parents is what we've come to expect from the genetic providers of thugs:
“If there was to be a death, it was not the place of the employee at Pizza Hut. That is the place of law enforcement,” said Hairston.
(BS, they would have blamed the police and started BLM riots if that had happened)
Hairston and Grace Sr acknowledged that their son was breaking the law by robbing the business, and said they definitely don’t condone what he did.
Well isn't that nice of them.
“It was an act of desperation, but I do not believe that Michael would have hurt anyone,” said Hairston.
Except maybe for this from a different article:
On Sunday, October 30th in Charlotte, North Carolina, three men walked into a Pizza Hut after closing hours to rob the business. One man, later identified as 28-year-old Michael Grace Jr, pulled a gun out on employees. One of the employees pulled his gun out and fired back, striking Grace in the head and killing him. Police did recover a gun after the incident from Grace. The other two suspects ran away and have not been caught yet.
So he had a gun and was threatening people w/ it.  But he wouldn't 'really' hurt anyone. They continue to excuse his behavior.
They said Grace Jr had fallen on hard times and resorted to crime to provide for his own child.
So repeat criminal but it's the employee's fault:
"Why in the hell did this guy have a gun?” questioned Hairston about the employee who shot her son.She said her son was shot in the head, and she thinks the shooting may have even been personal, citing past conflicts Grace Jr had had with other employees at the restaurant.“This wasn’t a body shot. This was a head shot. My son was shot in the left side of his head just behind his ear. A headshot is personal,” said Hairston.

Maybe the employees knew her son was a violent thug and prepared (rightly) to protect themselves from him.
No accountability or responsibility.  No wonder he thought he could take what he wanted from others.

End of an Era

The guy who made all those funny little comics supposedly professing God's love for
the world except for about 99% of the population, aka Jack Chick, has passed away according to their FB page.

This is of course the ironic genius behind the anti gaming tract Dark Dungeons.

Now he gets to find out if his vision was right or not.

Background Checks in Action

The narrative:

Guy who makes lots of mistakes in his youth turns his life around and goes straight.  Family, honest employment helping people, the works.

But he makes several other mistakes.  Big ones.

He changed his name to make things easier to move on, get a good job, not get labelled.  Fair enough.  But under his new name he is still a prohibited person.... and he went and got a gun.

How, you ask, can he do this with all of the licensing and background checks in place?

Easy... The system screwed up.... again and again.

Background check #1: FOID card. Mandatory for any purchase/possession of a firearm or ammo in the state.   30+ days for the state to conduct a background check. Falsifying information on the application is a class 2 Felony.  (question 2)

Background check #2: Firearm purchase.  NICS w/ the form 4473. State mandated 72 hr waiting period for handguns.  Falsifying information on the form is a felony (question 11c) (assuming he purchased the weapon legally that is)

Background check #3: CCW. 90 days for background check w/ fingerprints, 120 days w/o fingerprints.  3-4 months for a simple court records search.

Him merely having the gun was a felony under any circumstance.

So two or three extended time background checks and waiting periods all failed.

Why?

But lets do it again... only harder.

What? How'ld That Go Again?

So the lifelong criminal father of the lifelong, violent criminal thug who got shot by police for pointing a (stolen) gun at them, leading to the riots in Milwaukee, says that they passed Concealed Carry because more blacks would be shot by police and more  would carry guns and shoot eachother w/ them.
Like, already I feel like they should have never OK'd guns in Wisconsin. They already know what our black youth was doing anyway.....They got us killing each other and when they even OK'd them pistols and they OK'd a reason to kill us too. Now somebody got killed reaching for his wallet, but now they can say he got a gun on him and they reached for it. And that’s justifiable. When we allowed them to say guns is good and it’s legal, we can bear arms. This is not the wild, wild west y’all. But when you go down to 25th and center, you see guys with guns hanging out this long, that’s ridiculous, and they’re allowing them to do this and the police know half of them don’t have a license to carry a gun.
It's hard to get any more facepalm than this.
