A 4th Thing Added To The List

I don't normally do personal stuff here but I'm upset and need to vent.

People who know me well know that when bad things happen to me, I compare them to the absolute worst things that have happened to me over the last 40 years.  If they don't add up, I don't worry too much about them. If they compare, they go on the list.  There were 3 things on it.

1) When I was in the Navy, I was in charge of my division's berthing area of about 210 bunks plus head and a few other spaces.  In the middle of the night one time, I got woken up because a pipe had burst and we had a CHT leak (iow sewage) in our head.  So we start cleaning. Unfortunately, one of the drains got clogged up and because of a lip used to keep solid materials from clogging up the pipes, Chem gloves couldn't get in there to clean it out.  Off came the gloves and barehanded cleaning of the lip.

2) Working on a historical farm, I was prepping the area for the daily school groups.  A Co-worker comes down and tells me the ram, Bucky, was dead.  We go up to the area and find that the ram had got his head caught in the fence overnight and choked to death.  Coworker lifts up the rail while I pull the ram out.  He had been sitting there for hours and had swollen up to about twice normal.  When he came out, so did all the gas.

3) Again while at the farm, I was working at one of the satellite buildings and got a call from my roommate at the time that there was an emergency back home.  I didn't have long distance there so I close everything up and go back to the administration building.  My boss lets me call and I talk to my mom.  She tells me my dad was killed in a work accident. I manage to make it back to my apartment, throw some stuff in a suitcase and head out.  My vehicle at the time was an old, beat up pickup.  With no radio. I drove for 3 hrs by myself w/ no distraction whatsoever and then pull up to find a bunch of news crews there.  This was Sept. 8th, 2001.  You can guess the absolute numbness that I was in for the rest of the week.

Today I've added a 4th.

After a pretty stressful and tiring day at work (not entirely unusual though), I come home hoping to veg out in front of the computer to decompress for a bit, part of my normal routine.  The wife comes in from picking up the kids and motions me into another room and tells me to close the door.  She tells me she found the remains of one of our cats that had disappeared the weekend before.  She was only able to recognize it by the collar and used a stick to place what was left in a bucket but couldn't bring herself to do any more.  I brought the kitty down to the area where we had made a mausoleum for the various small animal pets the kids have had.  It was bad. Horror movie bad.  It was one of the worst things I've seen and the memory of that image I think is going to haunt me for a long time.  This is the first time I've had a drink in several years. Honestly, I knew what had happened to her and wish we hadn't found her.

I think I'm going to stay away from aggravating political stuff for awhile and just do 'fun' stuff like gaming.

Support For Constitutional Rights Exceeds Statists

Latest Pew poll has pro-rights above anti-gun fanatics 52-46.

Two Years After Newtown, A Shift in Favor of Gun Rights

They need another newsworthy shooting and a few more of Bloomberg's millions to get their numbers back up.

Some of the comments on Politico lamenting this :

Wouldn't it be awkward if LaPierre met the same fate as Chris Kyle while holding a live news conference? W O W - that's the day I write the NRA a big, drippy check.

I just love the P.C. republicans
That is Pants Crappers...the party of fear and paranoia

For the NRA and it's supporters, it is. They view the tiniest amount of agreement with regulation advocates as complete and total surrender. The stack of bodies will never pile high enough to change that.

New Illinois Motto Announced "The Police State"

A bill was passed w/ one of those completely unrelated amendments added to it.  This one making it a felony to record the police w/o a court order:
(a) Eavesdropping, for a first offense, is a Class 4 felony (from Ch. 38, par. 14-4) and, for a second or subsequent offense, is a Class 3 felony. (b) The eavesdropping of an oral conversation or an electronic communication of between any

law enforcement officer, State’s Attorney, Assistant State’s Attorney, the Attorney General, Assistant Attorney General, or a judge, while in the performance of his or her official duties, if not authorized by this Article or proper court order, is a Class 3 felony, and for a second or subsequent offenses, is a Class 2 felony 1 felo
Isn't that just special?  How far do they want the general populace to mistrust the police? They're saying that taking video of a police officer is the equivalent to attacking them physically.

Media Matters Censorship

It should come as no surprise that the George Soros funded 'Media Matters' deletes/censors responses and rebuttals to their never-ending slew of hit pieces.
Reporters asked me so often about Media Matters’ attacks that I would post my responses on my personal website and then try to post a link in their comments section. I put together 23 responses. They posted none of them.
So they are simply part of the same SOP as every other anti-gun group and most similarly-minded political websites.  Their entire belief system can only survive in an echo-chamber.

Anti-Gun Strategy: Annoy Businesses & Increase Their Profits?

So the Brady Campaign stands in front of a FFL dealer for a few minutes and declares 'Triumph'. Over what I'm not sure since the store is still open and in business.  It's definitely not in regards to their math skills as they claimed over 150 protesters but seem to have multiplied by at least 3. Maybe they were including passerby's again. Maybe the 'triumph' is getting more than a dozen people to show up.

While the protest against Kroger by Bloomberg shill Shannon Watts has had........ not quite the effect they were hoping.

Another 'Child Victim' of 'Gun Violence'.

18 yr old repeat offender out on bond for armed robbery gets ventilated trying to rob another store.

Family of course blames the shooter for hurting their baby
if no one pointed a gun at him - what gives him the right to think that it's okay to just shoot someone?” a relative, who wished to remain anonymous,
Maybe, just maybe you should have tried instilling that message into your idiot relative instead of blaming a citizen defending another?  Wouldn't that make more sense?  Oh wait, nevermind.
Police said that the Good Samaritan who opened fire was justified and broke no laws.
Good, the way it should be.

Of course he'll be added to the numbers of 'children and teens shot by guns' for this year.

Someone Really Doesn't Like Furries

Convention in Chicago gets attacked w/ Chlorine Gas
Several thousands of people, some dressed as animal characters, were evacuated from a Hyatt hotel in suburban Rosemont when an “intentional” chlorine gas leak at a convention led to 19 people being hospitalized early Sunday morning.
So, issue specific or just a test in a high density area?

Trust Them Not To Hurt You

There was a lot of discussion over the stupid college student who got mugged by a guy w/ a gun but didn't 'blame' the criminal because of 'white guilt'  He trusted in the criminal not to hurt him.

Things don't always go that well.

Scenario:  Car full of suburban HS students decide to drive down I-80 a short distance to Gary, IN.  Particularly a crime/gang infested part of it in order to get some pot.  Enterprising dealer decides he has more need of their cash/property than they do and pulls out a gun.  Teens speed off.  Enterprising individual unloads his revolver into the car killing a 17yr old girl.  When arrested, he claims they pulled a gun on him first but no other weapon was recovered.

Moral of the story.  Criminals are dangerous and you can't trust them.  Watch COPS and you'll see countless vignettes of sting deals where the dealer tries to rob the cop.  Putting yourself into a dangerous area around dangerous people is going to eventually end badly.

Disclosure. While I don't know the victim, I do know some of her family so this is somewhat 'close to home'.

What I do when I'm bored

Even though I don’t post very often, I’m probably on the computer more than most since I stopped watching TV back in 2001. I web surf, watch movies online and entertain myself with you tube videos. I’m always annoyed at the pop-up adverts that supposedly display products that I “should” be interested in.

Epic fail…but I bounce around like a house fly with attention deficit disorder so I can’t really blame the techno geeks who came up with the algorithm. A friend of a friend of mine works at google so I decided to call him one night about some ideas I had.

I was all set to talk about how to make the adverts more relevant but as soon as I punched in the last digit, my brain created perhaps the best idea I’ve had in years.

Here’s a transcript of the conversation.

Google tech: Hello?
Kaveman: Howdy, we have a mutual friend XXXXX, he gave me your number and I was hoping to pitch an idea you might be interested in which I believe would target a huge audience for adverts who are not only currently ignored but actually offended by the results of your current algorithm.
Tech: OK, were always searching for improvements but our algorithm is pretty rock solid; I’m trying to imagine how the results could actually offend anyone since it feeds directly off their search patterns.
Kaveman: I understand…let me explain. I work for a major non profit organization which advocates for gun control laws. Universal background checks, assault weapon bans, registration mandates and anything else we can think of.
Tech: OK, go on.
Kaveman: I spend a lot of time bouncing around websites like the Brady Campaign, CSGV, MAIG, VPC, Everytown Action Alliance, etc keeping up to date trying to coordinate our message and the adverts that pop up on my screen are nothing but offers to buy guns, take self defense gun training classes, gun cleaning products and so on.
Tech: OK, I’m listening.
Kaveman: Well, I’m terrified even looking at a picture of a gun and the concept of taking a training class to learn how to kill is abhorrent to me. Not that you’re actually responsible but I also have irritable bowel syndrome and I have, on occasion, actually shit myself after viewing the adverts bombarding me.
Tech: Uh…OK…sorry to hear that…what was that idea you had?
Kaveman: Your algorithm thinks I want to see adverts about firearms but as an advocate for gun control, I want the exact opposite. I want to see anti-gun products.
Tech: Such as?
Kaveman: We like candles and walking around in a big circle, so maybe some comfortable shoe adverts. We also like big pieces of cardboard and black felt markers. Antacids and pepto-bismal are always good and some stain resistant underwear would be much more effective than trying to sells us death machines.
Tech: How about flowers, kleenex and tiny caskets made for children?
Kaveman: Now you’re talking my language.
Tech: Well I have to admit, you raise a good point and I’ll bring this up at the next brainstorming session and see if we can’t build some code for people who research a product they oppose. Never really thought of that before so I thank you.
Kaveman: And toilet paper…we love soft toilet paper.
Tech: OK sir, have a nice day.

So I guess we’ll see how this all pans out.
