David Hemenway: Mary Shepard a 'Wuss'

There's an old meme about 'anti-gun logic' that goes 'It's better to be raped and murdered than defend yourself w/ a gun'.  Those who repeat it are often called 'extremist' or using 'bumper sticker arguments' by the anti-gun lobby.

Then an anti-gun activist goes and says it:
...I’d like to have this notion that anyone using a gun is a wuss. They aren’t anybody to be looked up to. They’re somebody to look down at because they couldn’t defend themselves or couldn’t protect others without using a gun.
And this isn't just your run of the mill activist, this is Dr. David Hemenway, one of the head researchers for gun control in this nation and a prominent recipient of Joyce Foundation grants.

I wonder if Hemenway would have the balls to say that to Mary Shepard's face?

So yes, they want you disarmed.  They want confiscation. They want you to have to rely on the police for your protection. These are the 'social norms' they're calling for.

I've disagreed w/ his premises and argued against his research considering him little more than a well-educated hack.  Now I consider him nothing more than a fanatical POS who deserves nothing but my contempt.

"...I’d like to have this notion that anyone not defending his- or herself is a wuss. They aren’t anybody to be looked up to. They’re somebody to look down at because they couldn’t bother to defend themselves or couldn’t bother to protect others without calling other people with gun[s]."

There. Fixed.

Also... Name calling? Really?

Just another sign that they don't have an argument. Next they'll be "agreeing to disagree", code for, "We've lost but don't want to admit it."

Wow, I wonder if this POS got his face smashed like this would keep his silly opinions.

It's like those old sayings, "there are no atheists in foxholes" or "a liberal gun-hater is someone who has not been robbed or raped yet".

Of course, he might be in the camp that it is far better to be killed than to use a firearm to defend yourself. I have difficulty with this attitude since they usually just ask the police to do it for them.

I made a post that started a discussion/debate on a Chicago columnists fan page, mostly with one individual who claimed to be a concealed carry supporter but who argued that deadly force would not be justifiable against any of the teens who were out wilding on Michigan Ave this past weekend, I simply argued that if I believed my life was in danger it would be. One person then came along and said, in paraphrase, “All we need to do is stand up to these [people]”. He explained that to him this meant that bystanders should jump in to help out when someone’s being attacked. I didn't go into it any further with this person, recognizing that they were operating completely from their imagination, having no understanding of what one of these situations is like, when you have dozens of aggressors involved and the psychology of bystanders. In fact I was telling the other person that I was debating with that all of his assumptions were based on imaginary hypotheticals while I was presenting actual accounts of concealed carry working and accounts of people being killed or seriously injured by people who used no weapons. I've been debating with people about concealed carry for several years now and I’m to the point where I want to stop debating (though I find myself drawn to it still) and just work on applying pure political force. I realize that I have and can convert people, but far more often is the case that I deal with really dense people who cannot absorb simple antithetical reasoning, who do not have the philosophical tools for assembling and deconstructing arguments to come to a grasp of the truth or even reality and it just depresses me about where this society is going.

What Hemenway is really saying is, "Gosh, I wish you people were disarmed. Then I'd really be allowed to do what I want!" He's a thug, a bully, and likely dreams of genocide.

No one with good intentions wants to disarm other people; only those who know their actions will be resisted want to render people unable to resist.

Rob, I'll need to steal that second paragraph. It's far too correct-yet-succinct to lose.
