The Blogging Community

Bitter and Sebastian both talk about how many of the gun bloggers have formed an online community that works together and supports eachother to further enhance our rights as firearm owners and how it would be to ours and other firearm rights supporters advantage to be a part of this community. I couldn't agree more. It is one of our greatest strengths.

Because this community goes beyond just the internet. It crosses over into the real world.

Examples: Just last weekend I drove to Indianapolis to get together with other bloggers and friends. The regular poster Kaveman (who needs to start his own blog) contacted me the other day to ask if I would like a subscription to Guns & Ammo since he had a gift subscription available. Coming up in a few weeks is the Gun Blogger Rendevous III.

We get together to meet and enjoy eachothers company while sharing similar interests.

We have places where we get together with other firearm enthusiasts: Ranges. Shops. Shows.

We teach our children the shooting sports while spending quality time together.

In other words. We enjoy ourselves.

The anti's have nothing to compare that with.

There are no anti-gun shops. No anti-gun ranges. No anti-gun shows. No anti-gun magazines.

There is no quality time in teaching your children be afraid or just leaving them in ignorance.

What they have in common when they get together is fear... disgust... even hatred. Not exactly things to build strong, lifelong friendships on. Oh, they may find they have other interests in common, but most of the time it will just be the negative emotions that brought them together in the first place.

We are a community. They only want to disrupt that community.

That is our strength.

Very well put, and very true on every count. Antis are just that - anti, and people who drive themselves by being against something will invariably either tear themselves apart over it, or surrender. I can only hope for the latter.

No way I could write the blog in a vacuum without reading the others. Who would I plagiarize?

Well said.

One thing I wanted to add is that before I starting reading these blogs, I never really paid that much attention to any gun related issues outside my home state. It's not that I didn't care, more like I didn't know just how restrictive other localities were. I understand that we're made up of individual states which have a certain amount of autonomy, but the more I learn about restrictions on others in my "community," the more I understand that we must all hang together or we shall surely hang seperately.

Some old fart said that once.

BTW, I have my blog account set up(mostly) and hope to join the ranks soon. The name I wanted was already taken and I want to build up some material before I launch. Also, "Shooting Times" sent me a 2-for-1 deal as well and I sent my renewal in yesterday so you should receive that one about the same time.

Just for giggles, I googled "anti gun store" on the intertubes and guess who's at the very top of the page?

Hint: it rhymes with fraidy damnbrain.

I really enjoyed your post. It is quite factual in that we ARE a community of like minded rational people. The same cannot be said of the liberal left. I like how you said what they have in common when they get together is anger and hate. How true.

Reminds me of a house of cards.
