Evidence presented:

Major Nidal Hasan allegedly shot 43 people at Fort Hood — 13 were killed and 30 were wounded. Hasan was able to buy a handgun even though he was under investigation by the FBI for links to terrorism. FBI agents investigating Hasan were never informed that he was trying to purchase a weapon.

REALFACT: Hassan was NOT on the watch list:

After reviewing the emails and concluding that Major Hasan was not engaged in terrorist activities, the JTTF investigator and supervisor did not share the information regarding Major Hasan, and he was not placed on a terrorist watch list.

So will you man up and send the $25 or will it all be 'moderated' and ignored?

Let's see what else happened in the VA Senate Committees yesterday:

The Senate Courts of Justice Committee on Wednesday approved a measure that would eliminate Virginia's one-gun-a-month restriction on handgun purchases, setting up what could be the most significant change to Virginia's gun laws in years...
The committee also approved, along party lines, a bill that would immunize from civil liability a person who uses deadly force against an intruder in his home. Senate Bill 4, sponsored by Sen. Richard H. Stuart, R-Westmoreland, passed 8-7.

And the CSGV/Brady fanatics are foaming at the mouth over it. Whether they didn't have enough people to cover all the bills or just don't have the influence to do anything more than temporarily stop a bill that received a 'tepid reception' doesn't matter, it's the best they can do anymore.

HB1294: 'Assault Weapon Ban'. A mish-mash of previous ban attempts. Poorly written including 'barrel shrouds' and .17HMR tube feds as dangerous machine guns. 90 days to register your guns including all your magazines over 10 rnds or you're a felon.

HB1599: Increases penalties for crimes committed w/ 'Assault Weapons'. Makes up the term 'High Capacity Ammunition' defined as any ammunition over .50 cal. It doesn't include an exclusion for shotgun ammo.

HB1855: Penalizes victims of crime for not reporting stolen firearms.

Just your average, everyday 'common-sense' anti-gun legislation. Call your reps to make sure this crap doesn't get any further than it already has.

Where did he pull that number out of since it's %150 higher than reality? Firearm deaths total are about 30K each year w/ only a small fraction due to accidents.

They Need More Victims

As much as Dennis Henigan of the Brady Campaign is 'saddened' by the retirement of AZ Rep. Giffords and all the fawning they've done over her the last year, one wonders why they didn't endorse her in ANY of her elections, 2006, 2008 or 2010, even when she was 'F' rated by the NRA?

Because she was neither a sure vote (went from F to C rated by NRA) nor a 'victim'. It was only after she was shot that they had hopes of using her status as a 'victim of gun violence' to push their political agenda. Had a gun not been involved, there would have been no candle lit in her honor.

They need victims, specifically victims in some way, any way, associated w/ guns in order to maintain their worldview. For everyone shot, no matter the circumstance, they can hope for another few supporters that will regurgitate their talking points in front of a camera or audience.

It's the only way they can hope to keep the lights on.

Oak Park, Il held a meeting, supported by the Joyce funded LCAV, in order to try and find ways/excuses to restrict firearms since their handgun ban was declared unconstitutional in McDonald v Chicago. This is how firearm owners were treated:

Members of the Illinois State Rifle Association arrived in gold hats, t-shirts and other identifying clothing and were directed by village staff to sit in the back.

They had a few token pro-rights folks speak but I'm sure the wormtongues from the LCAV were standing behind the council members whispering in their ears the whole time. They'll push ahead w/ whatever they think they can get away w/ and the Anti's will support them the whole way.

Besides the fact that both also supported an article decrying 'gun nuts' for 'politicizing a tragedy', do any of them honestly think "O" in campaign mode is going to touch the subject of 'gun control'?

Oh yeah, he'll play it behind the scenes but in no way is he stupid enough to come right out and say anything about it. The only result from that would be to throw more votes to the GOP and give more ammo(pun intended) to the NRA/GOA etc.

But the PuSH'ers are desperate for any sort of attention.

New York is actually doing something intelligent and is proposing dumping its $44m boondoggle defacto gun registration through ballistic fingerprinting scheme. From the NYSRPA:

After collecting over 356,000 spent shell casings since March 2001 at an estimated cost of nearly $44 million, not a single crime has been solved because of the program.

"By any rational measure, CoBIS has been a total failure," said NYSRPA President Tom King. "What is astounding is that there are actually elected officials defending it. Only in Albany would you find people who think that a program which has run for more than 10 years without producing a single result is good public policy."

NYSRPA strongly encourages the legislature to put an end to this farce and pass A-1131/S-459.

I'll disagree w/ Mr. King on one point, it's not just in Albany. There are anti-gun fanatics like that scattered throughout the country. Just look at DC, Chicago and CA for examples.

Self Admitted anti-gun nut reporter Edith Brady-Lunny has written a series of surprisingly well balanced articles on Illinois, CCW and firearms. This comes after she took a training course to educate herself. Here's the key phrase:

There's a few other things that aren't directly referred to in the BOR, privacy for example, but I'ld bet Ms. Bergner is a big fan of that.

Once an individual educates themselves on an issue, often the fear goes away. For others, though, they choose to either deliberately revel in their ignorance and fear because it's easier or more comfortable than facing them. Those kinds of individuals cannot be reasoned with. The first type we need to encourage.

The CSGV put up a video on the lobbying in Virginia on MLK day, one by the VCDL, one by a collection of Anti's. The purpose of the video is to show how mean and nasty gun owners are and how peaceful and 'reasonable' anti-gunners are.

I saw something else. Watch the video. Listen to the reactions of the crowds.

The VCDL event had attendees cheering and participating. These are people that are going to DO something for their cause. People who are going to be active.

Listening to the other event, I agree w/ Ladd. There's a 'dramatic difference'. Outside of the prayers, the speakers received tepid applause that seemed forced (ie after Colin Goddard's speech) when they even showed it at all which says something else entirely .

Joyce Foundation funded 'Media Matters' tries to make hay out of Wayne Lapierre claiming the NRA's money comes from its members.

They cite the VPC (also funded exclusively by the Joyce Foundation) and a Bloomberg hit piece article to show millions came from firearm businesses. What they selectively DIDN'T quote was this part:

Combined, sources such as fundraising, sales, advertising and royalties produced about $115 million in 2010, just over half the NRA’s $227.8 million in income, according to the group’s tax return. Most of the rest, about $100.5 million, came from membership dues. Other sources included program fees, sales of assets, investment income and subscriptions.

Now why wouldn't they put that part in there for their ADHD audience? Oh right, because that doesn't fit the narrative of the NRA being a front for the evil firearms industry (which they also claim is dying even though they're able to donate millions, makes sense, right? )

It funny that a 'media' group, paid to produce anti-gun articles by a political advocacy group w/o any grassroots attacks a group that has over 4 million members. But I bet they won't get the irony.

For a small shop, he's got a nice selection of traditional hunting rifles and shotguns w/ some EBR's thrown in for good measure. The front display case is brimming w/ revolvers, antique derringers and a side case of semi-autos. The surrounding walls also have numerous shotguns and antique long arms available. Some ammo and accessories in stock.

I've done some buying and selling w/ him. It's where I picked up my Ruger 10/22. His prices and offers have been fair. It also seems to be a hangout for some of the local gun community.

Trying to revive the 'Guns = Health Danger' meme, an anti-gun activist comes up w/ this idea:

In 1993, Senator Moynihan proposed that the Federal government tax ammunition, with a 10,000 percent tax on the deadliest projectiles. The gun lobby called his proposal laughable, and it went nowhere, but it is an idea worth revisiting. Instead of taxing ammunition, we might consider a more market-driven alternative: charging the ammunition industry for the costs incurred when their products are used to kill or maim people.

Isn't that ingenious? Let's take an idea that went nowhere at a time when gun control influence was at its peak and then make it even less likely to get any support.

Let's take this to its (il)logical conclusion. Let's then charge ANY industry for the criminal misuse of their products. Cars, computers, cleaning products, etc. Think that would work?

Really? By their own numbers, Georgia accounts for about 2600 traces/year for ALL guns. The avg 'time to crime' for these traces is about 9-12 years. Even fudging the numbers to make them all handguns recovered w/in 2 years, the Brady's are claiming in a population of over 9.8 million, less than 20,000 guns are sold each year in the entire state of Georgia.

Back when I first started DOOT, one of the first posts I made was an email I received from the Swiss Federal Statistics Office over a discrepancy in the UN homicide report. The UN had combined completed and 'attempted' homicides into one number, doubling the Swiss rate.

Thank you for your mail
Unfortunately, data from the UN reports are not correct. The figure of 213 refers to 'completed' and 'attempted' homicides and the figure of 127 to the attempted ones.

We apologize for the error and thank you very much for having brought it to our notice.

And another email from INTERPOL:

In response to your enquiry, INTERPOL's International Crime Statistics are no longer being made available to the public.

The decision to remove the statistics was taken as some users and some members of the media were making comparisons between countries based on these statistics, when different collection methods make such comparisons problematic.

So it's comparing apples and oranges depending on who is doing the reporting and what they're adding/withholding from it. But don't let facts get in the way of a good anti-rant.

Over and over we keep hearing about this all powerful, overreaching 'gun lobby' that controls everything and anything that has to do with firearms, from knowing the amount of ammo a casual shooter uses to the exact number and model of every single firearm sold in the US. It's blamed for corrupting youth, eroding the ozone layer and wanting to eat your women and run away w/ your livestock.

Usually when asked what this 'gun lobby' is though, the only answer you'll get is some vague reference to the NRA like this comment from Ladd Everitt, CSGV Comm Dir.:

“Nah. This is more like good, old-fashioned corporate corruption. Money to be made and far-right-wing political causes to be pandered to. Visit MeetTheNRA.org for a better idea of how it works.”

So in other words, they make up whatever definition they think fits at the time, just like Humpty Dumpty in 'Through the Looking Glass'. It's just another generic smear to use whenever they don't like something firearm related, have no clue about the specifics but need it to sound scary. It's little different than referencing the Gnomes of Zurich or the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, two fabricated concepts designed to attack groups of individuals (in those instances bankers and Jews) that allegedly manipulate the world and control the information.

The most amusing thing about this is the fact that there is no all controlling 'gun lobby'. Yeah, the NRA is the '800lb guerrilla on the block' but then there's the dozens of other groups and organizations out there, from national to local levels, magazines, blogs, ranges, companies,you name it that have little to nothing to do w. the NRA. But the Anti's don't know nor care, they need a single, simple boogy man they can demonize in their single, simple minds.

The NSSF puts out numerous industry reports available to the public. The CSGV would likely spend less of their Joyce grant money purchasing one of these reports than Ladd's spent in salaried man-hours 'outing' pro-rights bloggers.

Outside of the ATF manufacturing reports, there's these things called quarterly reports from publicly traded companies like Ruger :

Highland Park, IL is a gun banners paradise. Restrictive laws, registration, and a State Rep who hates the 1st & 2nd Amendment. So incidents like this shouldn't happen, right?

Shortly before 10 p.m. Friday, two armed suspects forced their way into a home on Winona Road in the northern suburb and fired shots. The suspects then tied up the victims and robbed them of jewelry and other valuables before fleeing, police said in a press release today.

So it was only luck that none of the victims were hurt. Plus the fact that they didn't have a chance to defend themselves nor were they able to call police. Good thing they were disarmed.

The New Years show went pretty well. Made a few bucks, got to talk to some folks I haven't seen in awhile and oogled many pretty toys. The fastest sellers for me were socks. There was zombie ammo there and several Saiga shotguns.

Saturday had a promoter come through w/ flyers for his shows in Effingham, IL. The next one's in Feb. I'll be trying to get some tables for that one and see how I do.

The big event for me came on Sunday. A friend of mine who's been talking about a safe of guns he inherited from his father for years came by to see me. The issue has been he never had the combination and had lost the serial number #. Well, he found it and asked if I would sell the majority of the collection for him. I went over to his house after the show to see what he had. This is what first came out:

A heavily beaten up Remington 550-I, held together w/ string. "Oh No" is what was going through my head. Then he pulled out this:
A near mint Ruger 10/22. Better. Next up:
A pair of Winchester Model 1894's. The bottom one is from 1913 and chambered in .30WCF. The top on is from 1918 in .32WS. Both are fully functional.

Then came the handguns. A little Rohn RG38 (SOLD)started those out:

When we switched over to the 'new look' back in May, I didn't take into account various code additions I'ld made therefore Google Analytics didn't register it until I noticed it sometime in November. Oops. Although the Lexicon and Primer have been popular along w/ the traditional 'Modern Militia' series. Since April however, DOOT has gone from 61 to 82 followers on Google, 331 to 365 followers on Facebook and from 104 to 233 on Twitter. The word is getting out there.

DOOT attended IGOLD 2011 and GRPC 2011 but was unable again to make the NRA convention. Illinois is now the last holdout state w/o CCW in any form making us a laughingstock. We've had much fun watching the demise of the Brady Campaign, CSGV and other anti-gun groups as they flail around in their death throws, attempting to remain relevant. 2012 is another election year and we're likely going to end up w/ another POS as POTUS no matter who wins. What will matter is who they nominate to the courts. It's going to be a long year as the campaign season heats up and the endless attacks flood every type of media in existence.

Trust Violent Criminals W/ Your Lives?

That's been the mantra of the Brady Campaign for years and it is continued by BC board member/Joyce Foundation puppet leader Joan Peterson as she acts the apologist for criminal activity in lieu of self defense:

Did the robber intend to shoot someone to kill? Did the robber have a gun? Is this a shoot first situation where a shooting is justified for self defense or the inevitability of bodily harm? Would the robber just have gotten the employee into a place where he could have taken money with no harm?

So before you can defend yourself in Gun Control-land, you have to know beyond a shadow of a doubt that a violent criminal is 'just' after your property. Otherwise you're at fault. To them, defending yourself is classified as 'gun violence'. They don't care about victims or criminals as long as none of it is done w/ a gun.

Where's the 'common-sense'? Certainly not in the shallowed halls of the Brady Campaign.

County prosecutors, who try to send violent people to prison for a living, can’t carry a handgun anytime they are on the work clock.

That's the point of all 'gun control', to keep as many people as possible (except actual criminals) disarmed and vulnerable. The poor and minorities are especially effected by laws like discriminatory licensing (aka may issue), 'safe storage' laws, bans on non-politically correct guns, expensive licensing/registration/training requirements, etc.

Then, when they are victimized, if the criminal had a gun, they can call for MORE 'gun control' to make even more people vulnerable.

Just one more piece of evidence that gun controllers, especially their leadership, lie. They lie about the present and they will lie about the past (including complete reconstructions of events) in order to present 'goodfacts'. Whether they believe their own lies is a matter of debate. Many of them have shown signs of mental illness in their denial of facts and evidence.

Either way, dishonesty and ignorance is their bread and butter. They cannot survive in an environment of open discussion and evidence. I aim to see them buried in the political/cultural landfill along w/ segregation, social darwinism and phrenology.

Some people have derided the 'Only Ones' posts as being disrespectful and demeaning to law enforcement. Unfortunately, there's a vocal subset of the police that earn the scorn:

Yesterday I posted an article on a teenager who got shot while robbing a house armed w/ a baseball bat. Here's another 'child victim of gun violence' while innocently out for a late night game of baseball:

Never upset a mother bear in her den. Now remember, Gun Control Advocates tell us that she should have given in to the demands of the criminals and that she would more likely be a danger to herself or family w/ a gun. They're also going to add the 15yr old to their numbers of 'victims'.

Really? The US 'firearm homicide' rate for 2010 was 2.84/100k. For it to be 20X higher, the rate for all 'western, industrialized nations' COMBINED would have to be less than .142/100K.

How does he get such numbers? Oh right, by using Joyce Foundation funded 'research' by Hemenway and selectively chosen countries while ignoring countries like Russia which has over 4x the homicide rate of the US along w/ some other qualifiers.
